Yesterday Cornerstone partnered with Absher Construction and Highline Public Schools (we’re currently building Evergreen High School for Highline Public Schools) to host a career day at the Northwest Carpenters Institute in Burlington, WA.
Nearly 50 students attended the event where they toured the facility, discussed careers in carpentry and got to practice some hands-on carpentry skills. The event was organized by Cornerstone's DEI Director, Vicki Puckett, and Elizabeth Palow who is the Career & Technical Education (CTE) Specialist for Highline Public Schools. The students are all enrolled in the CTE Construction Program at Highline high schools – Evergreen High School, Highline High School and Tyee High School. This workshop was a great way for students to learn more about careers in construction, especially within the trades.
Many of our projects require outreach and engagement with students. This event offered a unique opportunity for the CTE Construction Program students, as well as showing collaboration between two general contractors.
